REDDING, Calif. -

The seventh annual Healthcare for the Homeless Barbeque fed over 300 people at Lake Redding Park Wednesday.

The event was sponsored by the Shasta Community Health Center and happens every year on August 13.

The volunteers and staff served up plenty of food for anyone who decided to stop by.

Chris Peluso, a member of the Good News Rescue Mission, said this event means more than just good food.

“I have been homeless for about four years … so the biggest thing is to let them know that you are not forgotten," Peluso said. "You get out there in the wild and you start to feel really depressed and between the cracks and [the barbeque] is just good to acknowledge them now and then.”

Peluso said today was a reminder that he is not alone as he seemed to know everybody at the park.

From hamburgers to hot dogs, Shasta Community Health Center said today is a chance to give back by recognizing the people they serve in their community.
