FAIR OAKS, Calif. -

A country music star with ties to the Northstate died on Saturday.

Kevin Sharp died at the age of 43 from stomach complications.

Sharp was well known for his song "Nobody Knows" which shot to number one in 1996.

He was born in Redding and lived in the city for about five years.

His family said that during his senior year of high school he was diagnosed with bone cancer but survived it and lived on to help others.

He traveled as a motivational speaker and was very active in Make-A-Wish

Sharp, himself, a Make-A-Wish recipient.

He performed in Redding twice to help raise money for the foundation.

Barbara Harrison, who works with Make-a-Wish in the Northstate said she knew him well and he will be missed very much.

"Just an awesome, awesome person. In my book there isn't a sweeter or giving back person on the planet. He gives back as well as sharing things," Harrison said.

Harrison said over the years she became friends with Sharp and that he continued to help people despite being in pain.

By phone out of Fair Oaks, Calif., Sharp's mother, Elaine Sharp said her son was happy with what he did for others.

"Kevin could talk to people as easily as he could sing and he got into this inspirational speaking to survivors of cancer as part of Make-A-Wish. He loved it equally. He didn't have to be on the road quite so much either. He had no problems with not being the biggest star in Nashville," Elaine Sharp explained.

Sharp said her son liked to visit the Northstate particularly Cottonwood to enjoy the country and trees.

If you would like to pay your respects, the family is asking you donate to Make-A-Wish.

If you are interested in attending the funeral it will be Saturday, April 26 at 2 p.m. at at 2110 California Circle in Rancho Cordova, California.
