HYAMPOM, Calif. -

A car crash in Trinity County left one dead and another with serious injuries.

The driver and passenger, whose names are not yet being released, were traveling west bound on Hyampom Road when the driver failed to turn the vehicle with the curve of the road.

The car drove across the eastbound lane and off of the left shoulder, continuing down a sharp embankment and eventually rolling over onto the car's roof.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

The passenger was wearing a lap belt in the rear seat but faced major injuries, including a major laceration to the scalp.

The passenger was transported to Trinity Hospital then transferred to UC Davis Medical Center. The passenger is now in stable condition.

Law enforcement said they do not know whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash and they said the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
