REDDING, Calif. -

A Redding man was arrested Wednesday morning, accused of threatening to kill his father.  Deputies arrested Kristopher Buchanan, 28, for attempted murder, burglary and making terrorist threats.

The confrontation happened around 5:15 Wednesday morning at 12199 Lake Boulevard.  Deputies responded to a 911 call from Buchanan's father, 61-year-old Paul Buchanan.

Deputies said the father reported his son was outside his home, high on heroin and trying to break in.

Dispatch later updated deputies that the suspect, Kristopher Buchanan, was threatening to kill himself or have officers kill him through "suicide by cop".

Moments later dispatch reported that Paul Buchanan had armed himself with a club and that Kristopher Buchanan had entered the house.  Dispatchers heard a struggle and the phone line went dead.

When deputies arrived they found Kristopher Buchanan on top of his father yelling, "I'm going to kill you!" while beating his father about the head and face.  Both Paul and Kristopher were covered in blood.  Deputies removed Kristopher Buchanan from his father and placed him under arrest.

During the course of the investigation it was discovered that Kristopher Buchanan had broken a glass coffee pot over his father's head causing a large laceration, strangled his father, as well as punched him several times about the face and head.

Kristopher Buchanan was booked into the Shasta County Jail on the listed charges and the Sheriff's Office Major Crimes unit is finalizing the case.
