ORLAND, Calif. -

A big rig driver from Los Angeles crashed his truck Monday afternoon near Orland, blocking northbound traffic for about four hours.

The incident happened at 4:34 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, just south of County Road 20.

According to a news release from the CHP, 38-year-old Syvertic King Jr. of Los Angeles was northbound in a 1999 GMC 6500 truck, equipped with a 24-foot cargo box and towing an 18-foot utility trailer.   Wilton Hall, 42 of Los Angeles, was a passenger in the truck.

Investigators said the truck was passing other vehicles in the left lane, when it left the roadway and entered the median.  King tried to steer the truck back onto the road, but it tipped over onto its right side.  The vehicle came to rest blocking both shoulders and both northbound lanes.

Northbound traffic was diverted onto the shoulder until traffic was cleared around 8 p.m.

Alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor.
