Donations needed to complete 9/11 memorial

CHICO, Calif. -

Chico firefighters are building a 9/11 memorial fund at Fire Station Five near Upper Bidwell Park to honor those who lost their lives.

They need more money to finish it. So far the pentagon of the memorial has been completed. On each side it has all four flight numbers that were hijacked, and on the front it says never forget.

Chico fire planned the memorial after they received a piece of steel from the World Trade Center.

"We also have a very a deep connection to our brothers with the fire department of New York on the 343 that were lost that day,” said Chico Fire Captain Dave Main. “So we wanted to do something that honored their memory that was appropriate but also honor all of the memories that were lost that day."

Main said Chico fire needs $3,000-$5,000 to finish the information booth that will be at the end of the memorial. It will be constructed where the Station Five's dumpsters usually are.

They want to create the feeling to being claustrophobic to share the same feelings the firefighters felt in the Twin Towers.

Chico fire wants to have this memorial finished by September 11 of this year or before fire season.

You can donate by visiting any of the six Chico fire stations or contact Captain Dave Main at (530) 519-5620.
