Driver arrested after Shasta County chase and crash

REDDING, Calif. -

An early morning pursuit ended with a crash in Shasta County.

Deputies said it started in the City of Shasta Lake at 2:09 a.m. Wednesday, and ended on Happy Valley Road, southwest of Redding about 23 minutes later.

The suspect 33-year-old Michael Garcia crashed the P.T. Crusier at Happy Valley Road and Majestic View.  Speeds during the pursuit reached up to 80 miles per hour.

Deputies say it started in the City of Shasta Lake, one suspect jumped from the P.T. Cruiser near Pine Grove and Ashby.  Daniel Hampton was detained.

Deputies said Garcia drove off, leading officers through the Enterprise neighborhood, and southbound on Highway 273, throwing several items out of the car along the way.

After the crash near Anderson at Happy Valley Road and Majestic View, Garcia was arrested.   Deputies said he admitted to throwing a handgun out of the vehicle.

Garcia was booked into the Shasta County Jail for felony evading, felon in possession of a handgun and felon in possession of ammunition.
