Driver arrested for DUI after slamming into restaurant

The driver, 40-year-old Emily McGarity of Anderson, was arrested for DUI. The crash happened around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday at Vittles Family Restaurant in the 2400 block of North Street.

ANDERSON, Calif. -

Crews will be cleaning up Wednesday morning after an alleged DUI driver slammed into a restaurant in Anderson.    The driver, 40-year-old Emily McGarity of Anderson was arrested for DUI.

The crash happened just after 11 p.m. Tuesday at Vittles Restaurant in the 2400 block of North Street.

Anderson Police said McGarity was southbound on Interstate 5, when she exited at North Street.     They said she failed to stop at the end of the exit ramp, instead driving across five lanes of traffic on North Street and slamming into Vittles Restaurant.

The force was enough to punch a hole in the kitchen wall, damaging several kitchen appliances.

Police found McGarity in the driver's seat, she failed field sobriety tests and she was arrested for DUI.
