REDDING, Calif. -

A suspect was arrested on drug charges after locking his keys inside his vehicle.

It happened Tuesday around 7:30 p.m. on East Cypress Avenue in Redding.  Officers were searching the area for a suspect after a nearby gas station was robbed.

Investigators were near Lithia Motors, when they saw 46-year-old Glen Black near a van in the parking lot of the Gas 4 Less at 225 East Cypress Avenue.

Police said Black panicked because he was carrying illegal narcotics.  After discovering that he had locked his keys inside his vehicle, police said Black broke the back window of his van in an effort to hide from police.

After police detained Black they discovered he had a plastic box which officers said contained 46 individual packages of methamphetamine and several packages of marijuana.

Black was arrested for possession of methamphetamine for sale and possession of marijuana for sale.

Police said Black was not involved in the robbery of the gas station that initially brought the officers to the area.  Officers located that suspect, 30-year-old Ryan Peterson, at 555 Leila Avenue.
