Netflix picks up show from the Wachowskis
Netflix isn't taking its original content potential lightly.
The home of the resurrected "Arrested Development" announced Wednesday that it's picking up a new series from Andy and Lana Wachowski.
The filmmaking duo behind "The Matrix" collaborated with J. Michael Straczynski ("Thor"; "Babylon 5") to create a sci-fi show called "Sense8," which is described as "a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted." It marks the Wachowskis' first TV project.
"We're excited to work with Netflix and [production company] Georgeville Television on this project," the Wachowskis said in a statement. "We've wanted to work with Joe Straczynski for years, chiefly due to the fact his name is harder to pronounce than ours, but also because we share a love of genre and all things nerdy. Several years ago, we had a late night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox 'Sense8' was born."
Netflix, which generated a huge amount of buzz when it released its original series starring Kevin Spacey, "House of Cards," earlier this year, plans to bring "Sense8" to life in late 2014.
