ANDERSON, Calif. -

The family of 77-year-old June Ohta, who was killed Sunday in a crash in Anderson, is now struggling with the loss.

Ohta died on her 77th birthday on Ox Yoke Road in Anderson.

The accident happened on Sunday at around 6:45 p.m. on Highway 273 and Ox Yoke Road.

Officers said a Ohta was killed as she made a left turn in her Hyundai sedan.

Officers said alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been a factor in the accident. Two family members who were in the car were transported to the hospital. They said they knew Ohta was dead as soon as they saw her.

"I was able to run all the way around the car and I got out there and tell her wake up and go out there and tell her wake up, but she wasn't getting up. When I seen her legs, I walked back to the curb and couldn't get her back up," said Shawn Galloway, who is the victims grandson.

"She looked at both of us and closed her eyes and that was it," said Raymond McDonald, Ohta's granddaughter's husband.

The family held a car wash on Thursday. They will be holding another car wash on Friday at the Burger King off of North St. in Anderson from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A bank account has also been set up at Tri-Counties Bank. If you would like to donate to the family, just mention the account title: “June Ohta Memorial.”
