RED BLUFF, Calif. -

An early morning fire in Red Bluff has displaced two people.

The fire was reported at 1:26 a.m. at 375 La Bray Ave.

The homeowner, Janet Correa, has lived at the home her brother built for almost 50 years.

She told us she was sleeping early Wednesday morning when she woke up in a panic.

"All I heard was just pounding and pounding and screaming, get out, get out. I didn't know what was going on because you're in a state of shock," Correa said.

Correa's roommate, Laurence D'Alberti, was working in his den when the fire broke out.

"I could see the sparks right through the blinds. I came outside of the house and the power lines were laying down across the truck and across the wood pile," D'Alberti said. "It had ignited the wood pile in the center of the driveway and then the flames were licking at the front of the house."

D'Alberti said owns a business that is run out of the den. Even though he lost most of his files and paperwork, D'Alberti said he is happy to be alive.

"We are going to get over this," D'Alberti said. "It could've been worse. We could've been killed. We could've been burned. The whole house could've been gone."

Cal Fire said there were downed power lines at the scene, but the cause of the fire has not been determined.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance.

Red Cross volunteers will make an assessment of the resident's needs and are prepared to assist with temporary lodging, and replacement of essential items such as clothing and food if necessary.
