REDDING, Calif. -

Since the crash in San Francisco, several local pilots have talked about the accident in relation to their experience landing a plane, but few have been able to speak with experience in flying a passenger jet.

Allan Jensen is the Chief Pilot for the Redding Jet Center. He has been flying for 17 years, has been a commercial pilot and has flown into SFO himself. He said that flying into a big airport like San Francisco does have its challenges.

Jensen said one challenge is when you are flying between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., there is more turbulence because the weather is warmer.

He also said that on a clear day, the sun is usually brighter, which could cause glare.

“Sometimes the sun will get in your way if you're landing right into SFO because you can be landing right into the sun,” said Jensen. “I heard a report that there was a bright light within 500 feet. Why they didn't just go ahead and go around at that point, I don't know.”

Jensen also added that communication between the pilot and co-pilot is crucial especially when facing difficulties.
