October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. To coincide with the awareness the month brings, Redding's annual "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walk will be held this weekend.
So far 200 walkers have registered.
Funds raised in the event will benefit research, education, patient services and advocacy.
Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States.
In Shasta County, 150 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and by the end of this year, twenty people will die in Shasta County from breast cancer alone, according to organizers.
They add that in Butte County, 205 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and by the end of the year, 40 people will die.
The walk will take place on Saturday, October 12th at the Sundial Bridge.
Last year, the event raised $20,800. The goal is to raise $45,000 this year.
