Anderson City Councilwoman Melissa Hunt goes up on the roof to raise money for the Anderson Police K-9 program.
This is Hunt's fifth year raising money for a good cause on the roof of Mary's Pizza Shack in Anderson. The Anderson Union High School and West Valley High School choirs serenaded Hunt before she headed to the roof at 5p.m. Friday for her 25 hour stay.
People were invited to come down to say hello, honk their horns and donate money. Hunt says doing the event on the roof is the perfect way to grab people's attention.
"It puts the name of the nonproift out there and it has educated people about what's going on in Anderson. A new dog is exciting, how much better can you make your community by making a safer place," said Hunt.
K-9 Aero is the newest member to the police department. His handler is Officer Hallagan. Anderson Police Chief Mike Johnson says their K-9 program needed this fundraiser.
"We are very pleased she's helping us out, with a tight budget and tight money in every aspect, and we were chosen so we can't thank her enough for coming out and supporting us," said Chief Johnson.
Hunt will be on the roof until 6p.m. Saturday.
