REDDING, Calif. -

Gas prices continue their recent downward trend.  The Fuel Gauge Report from Triple A shows the average price in Redding dropped 5 cents in the last week to $3.80.

The average price in Chico fell 4 cents to $3.73.

California's statewide the average price is $3.80, that's down 5 cents in the last week.

The national average is $3.34, down one cent from last week.

"A host of factors, including a lack of hurricane activity, has helped keep gas prices marching steadily lower for three consecutive weeks," said AAA spokeswoman Linda Gorman. "Given current market factors, it's becoming a very real possibility that drivers in certain areas could see fuel prices at or below the $3 mark before the year is through."

Nationally, prices just below $3 a gallon were seen late last year before prices shot upward in January and February. AAA projected prices would be fairly stable this year, and they have been.
