Giant Rattlesnake Picture Causes Commotion

Published On: Jul 10 2013 07:47:01 PM CDT

A photo of a giant rattlesnake gained a lot of attention on KRCR News Channel 7's Facebook page. Although a viewer sent us the photo, it was actually taken in El Dorado County and it was few years old.

Still, rattlesnakes do live in the Northstate and it is important, especially in the summer to know what to do when you see one.

Experts say that that snake is an anomaly, especially for Northern California.

The Northern Pacific Rattlesnake, the kind that lives around here, can live for around 20 years, but only grow to about five feet long at most.

This does not make them any less dangerous, and a bite from a small rattlesnake can be deadly if it is not treated immediately.

Be careful around rocks and brush in rattlesnake territory, and know that the snakes are often more scared of you than you are of them.
