ANDERSON, Calif. -

A Good Samaritan helped an Anderson Police officer catch a suspect wanted on several warrants.  Michael McPherson, 42 of Anderson, was arrested early Sunday morning.

It started at 1:24 a.m. Sunday when an Anderson Police officer was on patrol in the area of North Street and Ravenwood Drive. He tried to contact a suspicious subject to the rear of an open business.

The officer recognized the subject as McPherson who was a wanted person. McPherson fled from the officer on a bicycle. The officer ran after him for a short distance.

A citizen, who was driving in the area and who recognized the officer, noticed McPherson was outdistancing the officer.

The citizen pulled up and offered the pursuing officer a ride to help in the pursuit. The citizen drove the officer, and closed the distance.  The officer then got out and apprehended McPherson.

Police said McPherson had several felony warrants for his arrest. He was booked into the Shasta County Jail on his outstanding warrants with additional criminal charges including delaying the officer in the performance of his duties, possession of burglary tools, and possession of an illegal knife.
