CORNING, Calif. -

Skaters and cyclists in Corning are enjoying a brand new skate park that opened on Saturday.

The city of Corning applied for a grant in 2009 and was one of 56 cities in the state approved.  They received $4.3 million to build the new park.
The city brought in a skate park development company from San Diego to help design the park.

"The skaters and the people we've heard from are very pleased with the park and we hope it brings years of enjoyment for those who enjoy this type of activity," said John Stoufer, planning director consultant.
"This is a good place so you don't have to get into trouble for riding the streets and stuff.  As long as you wear a helmet you're good," said Travis Thomas, a cyclist.

It's mandatory for everyone to wear a helmet using the park.  The park isn't finished, and the city is also building a soccer field right next door.
