The full closure of Highway 32 has been extended due to the discovery of an unanticipated groundwater spring.

Caltrans District 2 must extend the full closure period for the Deer Creek Realignment Project on State Route 32 near the Elam Campground.

Due to an unanticipated groundwater spring, the construction site has been inundated with water, causing delays in construction activities. Additional work is needed in order to provide a sound roadway.

The weekly full closures of SR 32, anticipated to end this month, will be extended through the end of October. Motorists will continue to be detoured to State Routes 99 and 36 weekly beginning Monday at 6 a.m. through Friday at 6 a.m.

· From Chico: Take SR 99 to State Route 36

· From Chester: Take either SR 36 to SR 99 or SR 89 to SR 70

It will be open Friday through Sunday with one-way controlled traffic. Delays could be up to 15 minutes long.

Caltrans has set up a hotline (530) 225-3452.  It can be accessed 24 hours a day. You can also find more information by visiting
