REDDING, Calif. -

A fire destroyed a Red Bluff home early on Friday morning.

The fire was reported at 723 Hickory Street in Red Bluff around 6:10 a.m. on Friday.

The fire was contained about 45 minutes later and firefighters remained on the scene to mop up.

The house was empty at the time, but neighbors reported seeing squatters there in the past, so firefighters conducted a search. The fire melted the power lines and shut off power to both neighboring structures.

The fire started in the area of the west exterior wall of the house at the location of an attached outbuilding, which was destroyed.

The house across the alley to the west also had windows broken due to radiant heat.

The owner of the building has not yet been determined and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

KRCR News Channel 7's Evan Schreiber is on the scene and will have a full report tonight on KRCR News Channel 7.
