REDDING, Calif. -

A Shasta County man is facing kidnapping charges after police say he brandished a hatchet and held a relative hostage.

Officers responded to Alta Mesa Drive and Marlene Street in Redding just after 1:00 Tuesday afternoon when they got reports of a man standing in the street with a hatchet and acting strangely.

Police said when they arrived they found 28-year-old Ou Choy Saechao with a hatchet.

Saechao reportedly refused to speak to officers and ran into the back yard of a home.

He then allegedly went inside and officers said they spotted Saechao holding a female relative hostage.

As the woman struggled to get free officers came in and arrested Saechao.

He faces charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, and resisting arrest.

The victim was not harmed during the incident.
