REDDING, Calif. -

A man and woman were arrested early Thursday in Redding after officers said they found them with a stolen vehicle.

Daniel Obar, 29 of Anderson, and Christa Russell, 30 of Redding were both arrested on a series of charges.

Police said at 2:40 a.m., Redding Police Officer Brandon Largent was driving south on Cedars Road in the area of Branstetter Lane when a maroon 1994 Honda Civic passed by him at a high rate of speed.  The officer recognized the vehicle as previously reported stolen.

Officer Largent turned around to conduct a traffic stop.  The officer saw the stolen vehicle stopped in a driveway in the 2100 block of El Reno Lane, and saw a man and woman getting out of the stolen car.  Officer Largent detained both suspects until additional back up officers arrived, and both were taken into custody.

Both Obar and Russell were found in possession of small quantity of suspected methamphetamine and narcotic paraphernalia.

Obar was booked at the Shasta County Jail for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.  Russell was booked for possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotic paraphernalia and three outstanding warrants for her arrest.
