Three people survive after train slams into their pick-up truck

CHICO, Calif. -

Three people are recovering after their pickup truck was hit by a train in Butte County early Tuesday.   The collision happened just northwest of Chico at Bell & Meridian Roads around 2 a.m.
The CHP said there were three people were in the Chevy pickup when it was hit by a northbound Amtrak train.  The crashed truck then knocked over the railroad crossing signal.

According to the CHP, the male driver ran from the crash.  He was later located by Chico Police on Welding Way.   He was taken to the hospital.  The male and female passenger in the pickup truck were also able to get out of the wreckage and were sitting on the side of Meridian Road when medics arrived .

All three victims were taken to the hospital.   Their names were not immediately released.
