One man was taken to the hospital and another was arrested after an assault involving a hammer.
It happened just before 8 p.m. Sunday at the Reddingwood Mobile Home Park at 4410 Westside Road in Redding.
Police said it started when two male roommates got into an argument while they were drinking beer on their front porch.
The victim David Cox, 41, told police his roommate obtained a construction-type hammer and hit him several times with the claw portion of the tool. Cox said he feared for his life and thought his roommate was trying to kill him.
He eventually was able to deflect the blows and stop the attack. After a struggle over the hammer, police said the suspect Jason Hake, 31, rode away on his bicycle with the tool still in his possession.
Police found the suspect Jason Hake, 31, sitting in a chair in front of the mobile home. Police said he was covered in the victim's blood. They found the bicycle and the hammer near the entrance to the mobile home park.
Hake was arrested for attempted murder.
Cox was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he was treated for cuts to the top of his head. At last report, police said he was in stable condition.
