Man arrested for causing Chico vegetation fire
A 25-year-old has been arrested for causing a fire in Chico on Tuesday afternoon near the 1200-block of Orchard Way.
CAL FIRE and Butte County Fire responded to the vegetation fire on Tuesday and held it to one-tenth of an acre. The damage was contained to some equipment and fencing.
During the fire investigation that followed, an unknown substance was found and the Butte County Interagency Bomb Squad and Chico Fire Hazmat Unit was called in. They determined that the substance was an explosive component.
CAL FIRE said that evidence led Butte County sheriffs to arrest Robert Spencer McLaughlin, 25, for possession of an explosive substance and causing a fire.
The incident remains under investigation.
