A suspected burglar is arrested on multiple charges after burglarizing the same apartment three times and attacking the tenant.
Redding Police said it started on Jan. 25, when somebody entered an apartment on the 1400 block of Trudie Lane and stole electronic items including cell phones and laptop computers.
The tenants of the apartment were visiting from China to attend a local flight school.
Two days later, on Jan. 27, one of the flight students awoke to an intruder inside the apartment, the second break-in that week. The student was struck in the head and face multiple times by what appeared to be a handgun.
The intruder ran off with more stolen electronic devices, dropping his flashlight on the way out.
The student was treated for cuts and bruises at Shasta Regional Medical Center.
About two weeks later, on Feb. 11, the intruder broke into the apartment in the middle of the night again.
Police said the burglar got in by drilling a hole through the door.
Again, more phones and other electronics were stolen.
Two weeks later, investigators conducted a probation search on a home in the area, talking to 20-year-old David Alexander Ruiz, who matched the intruder’s description.
Police learned that Ruiz was a transient form Oregon, and found hypodermic syringes, a pellet revolver, and a set of lock picking tools in his possession.
Ruiz was taken in for questioning. He confessed to all three burglary attempts.
Ruiz was booked at the Shasta County Jail on charges of Residential Robbery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, three counts of Residential Burglary and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Ruiz also admitted to using methamphetamine.
