MAGALIA, Calif. -

A man died Monday morning when part of a tree fell on top of him. CAL FIRE said there was a tree crew doing work near the area of Skyway and Coutolenc in a ravine when they received a report that a man had been hit by a tree.

It happened in the Lovelock community around 10:20 a.m. The man was in a tree about 10 to 15 feet from the ground cutting branches. According to CAL FIRE, his co-workers were able to pull him out of the tree but medical personnel had to use a haul system to hoist him from the ravine.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. It's unknown what company the man worked for.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office will not be releasing his name until his family has been notified.
