CHICO, Calif. -

A wanted man fled Chico police officers and then fought them once he was caught Friday afternoon.

His name is Richard Ledford of Chico.   Police said he took off the minute he was confronted by officers.  Investigators said Ledford had both felony and misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest.

Chico police detained Ledford around 2:15 p.m. down an alley between Eighth and Ninth Avenues just before Magnolia Avenue.
A Chico police officer saw Ledford on a bike near Magnolia and Eighth Avenues.  Officers approached him to talk to him about his warrants.
Ledford then took off on the bike heading towards Ninth Avenue.

Once he got to the alley way, he ditched the bike and started hopping backyard fences until officers got him outside this home.

"He struggled with officers," said Sgt. Scott Harris from Chico police.  "A brief struggle ensued with a couple of officers. One was with a Chico State officer and one of our officers.  He was ultimately placed in hand cuffs."

The felony warrant was filed by the sheriff's office.  Chico police said the warrant was for evading an officer.
The misdemeanor warrant was filed by Chico police but they couldn't tell us what the warrant was for.

Ledford did suffer minor injuries.  He was taken to Enloe Medical Center for treatment,  and from there he will be taken to the Butte County Jail.
