OROVILLE, Calif. -

A driver is recovering after hitting two horses in a car crash that closed Highway 70 in Oroville.

CHP said Kenneth Wahl, 42, and Linda Mullick-Wahl, 43, were driving in their minivan at around 8:15 p.m. Monday on northbound Highway 70 in Oroville, when they hit two horses.

The CHP said the horses were killed and one of them smashed through the windshield, trapping the driver.

A truck had to be used to haul the horse off the car and free the driver. The roof of the vehicle had to be cut away and the vehicle occupants were taken to the hospital.
