Many expected to beat the heat at the Sycamore Pool this weekend

CHICO, Calif. -

The Northstate temperatures are expected to rise above triple digits this weekend, sending many Chicoans to Sycamore Pool at One-Mile in Bidwell Park.

“The heat is certainly hot but you can't beat the breeze and trees in the park,” said Aaron Robertson, who is visiting from Sacramento.

“It’s cold it's wet and it's comfortable,” said James Logan, another pool goer.

Many say they use One-Mile as a nice quiet place to read. Some to even out those tan lines and others to simply just to enjoy the pool.

“Chico is second to none.  I lived all over the place from Seattle to San Diego and all over the west coast of the United States and it's like an equal four seasons I love it,” said Logan.

Sycamore Pool officially opened last weekend for Memorial Day and park rangers said they saw quite a few people at the park but the wet weather on Monday kept people away. This weekend, park rangers expect the pool to be packed.

“The pool is nice and clean. They did the regular cleaning on Thursday so we are set to go,” said Chico Park Ranger Shane Romain.

Officials tell us although they are expecting a lot of park visitors, they are hoping for a safe weekend.

“Stay hydrated that is first and for most.  Make sure you put on sunscreen.  If you're in the pool areas please follow the rules you don't want to dive in,” said Romain.

Lifeguards will be on duty everyday starting June 8 except on Thursdays, which is when the city cleans the pool.
