A memorial service is set for a man who died after a log fell on his head at a Chico lumber yard.
It happened around 1:30 on Wednesday afternoon at Sierra Log Homes on Morrow Lane.
Deacon Murphy, 42, was working on a pulley when a log fell from the top part of the logging truck and landed on his head.
He was taken to Enloe Medical Center in serious condition and later died.
Several of Murphy's friends and family members were at his Los Molinos home on Friday morning. They said Murphy is survived by his wife Coni, and two daughters, Shelby and Molly.
While we were at Murphy's home, a few employees from Les Schwab in Red Bluff, Gib Kennen and Grant Clark, stopped by to give their condolences.
They said they had worked with Murphy for at least the past 12 years.
"You could tell he was a great family man, a great friend and he will be missed that's for sure," Clark said.
Kennen added, "Just one of those guys where [he was] more of a friend than a customer. No matter how bad you're day was going or his day was going, if he pulled in it was like a sighed relief, ahh finally, somebody pleasant."
Murphy was raised in Red Bluff and was a Red Bluff High School graduate.
His memorial service will take place on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Saint Mary's graves site in Red Bluff. There will be a reception held right after and it is open to the public.
If you would like to help the family, donations can be made at any Rabobank under Deacon Murphy's name.
