REDDING, Calif. -

Playtime nearly turned tragic for a Redding family when they took their kids to play at Boulder Creek Elementary School on New Year’s Day.

Jennifer Manly said her 17-month-old son, Blake Manly, was run over by another boy riding a bike.  Jennifer said the injury sent him to the hospital.

“This kid came flying out of nowhere hauling rear on his bike and just ran right over the top of him twisted him under the bike, slashed his face open,” said Jennifer Manly. "It was a split second and we looked back and our little boy was in between us and the sandbox."

Manly said in an instant her son was covered in blood with a gash near his eye.
Jennifer said neither the boy riding the bike nor his father acknowledged what happened.

"To not say  'I’m sorry?' How can you not say 'are you OK?' Didn’t show any concern whatsoever,” said Manly. “I didn't think to stop and get a name, my instinct was to get him to a hospital."

Blake received eight stitches near his right eye.

Jennifer said she is thankful that her boy is OK and hopes this doesn’t happen to anyone else.

"I think people really need to be aware. More aware, pay more attention, show more concern,“ said Manly.
