EUREKA, Calif. -

The Humboldt County priest found murdered in a church rectory will be laid to rest in Monday in Eureka.

Father Eric Freed, 56, will be remembered at a funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Eureka.  The Mass starts at 11:30 a.m., followed by burial at St. Bernard's Cemetery.  Following that, everyone is invited to the parish hall at St. Bernard's Church.

Police said 43-year-old Gary Lee Bullock killed the priest during a violent struggle.  Freed's body was found New Year's morning at the rectory where Freed lived.

Bullock had been released from jail hours earlier for public intoxication.  A security guard later encountered Bullock near the church in the earlier morning hours of New Year's Day and asked him to leave.

Authorities have not determined a motive.
