MAGALIA, Calif. -

One man is dead, the other badly hurt after a shooting between neighbors in Magalia.
It happened in the 1400 block of Northwood Drive around 10:45 a.m.

Deputies say a man confronted his neighbor.  The confrontation turned into an argument, and then a shooting.
Investigators arrived on scene and say the suspect fled back to his home.  Then a gunshot rang out and deputies found the suspect dead in his backyard.

They won't say if he took his own life.

"At this point, the cause of death is under investigation," said Undersheriff Kory Honea. "We'll probably release more details after we've notified the individuals next of kin, but we can say is that we do not believe any other suspects are outstanding at this time."

A neighbor who did not want to be identified says the victim had moved in during the summer, and said the suspect was a good friend of hers.  She says the victim and people he was living with were known to cause trouble.

"I know him well enough to know that if a dispute gets to the point in where he was trying to protect his self, he would shoot someone in self defense," said the anonymous neighbor.  "Knowing him, I know he would choose not to live anymore.  He has no family whatsoever, and I could see him taking his own life so he wouldn't go to prison because of his age."

The neighbor says the suspect was around the age of 60.  She also says he collected antique guns.

According to Honea, the Sheriff's Office will release more information about this case once the next of kin have been notified.
