New bike paths open up in east Redding
New bike paths in east Redding are now available for everyone to enjoy.
Bikers can ride more than five miles of new trails. They connect to existing bike paths along Highway 299 and Shasta View Dr. - making for easy access to Shasta College and Simpson University.
They also connect to other routes outside the city limits. The project was designed to help bikers feel safe when riding around Redding.
"By adding a shoulder with a few extra feet on each side, it greatly enhances the safety. So, that encourages people to use these roads," said Patrick Minturn, Shasta County Public Works Director.
"This is good for everybody," said bicyclist Bob Leslie. "It’s good for the vehicles and the bikers. It gets more people out on their bikes being able to ride more places and being a lot safer."
The project cost around $2.6 million. The next step will be to put in more bike lanes in south Redding.
