A new business in downtown Chico hopes to attract college graduates looking to start a career in marketing.
Wanderful Media officially opened its Chico office at a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday night.
The company alerts their customers of sales at local stores, and encourages them to shop there.
They also work on online advertisement with over 500 newspapers including the Washington Post and The Sacramento Bee.
Wanderful Media bought out a company in Chico that conducted business next to the Chico airport, and decided to set up shop downtown.
CEO Ben Smith said they chose Chico because they wanted to expand in a university town.
"I wanted to be next to a college, and while I haven't been in Chico since I was at [UC] Davis 20 something years ago,” said Smith. “I came up here and spent a lot of time with the kids here and decided to make a firm commitment to Chico. Being downtown was the only way we were going to make that work."
Wanderful Media's headquarters is located in Los Gatos in Silicon Valley.
Smith said the choice came down to building in Chico or Roseville. He also said many people want to raise families in Chico, because of the low cost of living and the proximity to the Bay Area.
Wanderful Media said they hired seven Chico State alumni, and has offered 40 local jobs.
