OROVILLE, Calif. -

Cancer patients in Oroville will find receiving treatment more convenient thanks to new technology in the city's hospital.

Oroville Hospital has opened a new state-of-the-art radiation oncology clinic.

The machine is the centerpiece, using focused ionizing radiation to destroy cancerous cells.

Until now, this type of treatment required Oroville patients to travel to Marysville, and beyond.

Josh Davis, V.P. of Radiation Oncology at said now patients can get that treatment in their own city.

“The most important thing here is that we're going to be able to treat the patients close to home,” said .  “Radiation therapy can take anywhere from four to eight weeks. And to have to go back and forth 30 miles each way, it's difficult.”

The hospital will begin an ad campaign to let cancer know patients that this radiation treatment is now available closer to home.
