CHICO, Calif. -

Teachers, parents and students of Citrus Elementary School in Chico are breathing a sigh of relief.

The school will remain as it is, after the Chico Unified School District Board of Trustees voted 3-to-2 Wednesday night to keep the school open.

Citrus has taught kindergarten through 6th grade since 1936, but was being considered as the new location for Loma Vista School,  the district's special education school.

If the change had occurred, more than 300 Citrus students would have moved to neighboring schools.

"A lot of the main concerns were parent involvement," said Jerradine Sandoval, whose child attends Citrus. "But if they move the school, the parents who don't have vehicles can't get here to help their kids."

"I definitely did not want my son having to go to a different school," Sandoval added.
