North Redding home explodes, bursts into flames

REDDING, Calif. -

Firefighters responded to a home explosion and fire in North Redding early Monday.    One woman suffered major burns after the explosion in the 3700 block of East Keswick Dam Road near Mariposa Drive.

Police and fire crews responded around 2:30 a.m. Monday and found the home on East Keswick Road engulfed in flames.  A wall was blasted out of the home, the window frame landed around the mailbox.

A 51-year-old woman was contacted outside of her residence badly burned.   She told officers that she had intentionally flooded her house with natural gas and lit a cigarette in an attempt to commit suicide.

She was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment, and later transferred to U.C. Davis Burn Center.
