REDDING, Calif. -

The slide will rise again in Redding, according to the Waterworks Park administration.

Fans and staff members are awaiting the return of The Dragon slide. The attraction was destroyed by an alleged arsonist in late January. Surveillance video showed someone walking into the park and setting the slide on fire. Park staff said it was going to cost more than $100,000 to replace.

Park administration said they are set to open May 23 and the famous attraction will be back this season.

Work is being done throughout the park including fresh paint and other minor adjustments.

The missing pieces of The Dragon slide were still missing Monday but the new parts are expected to be delivered sometime this week, according to Waterworks Park general manager Rebecca Ortiz.

"There was never a question of if we were going to rebuild it or not,” she said. “We were definitely going to rebuild it and bring it back and make it even better than before. Obviously, we upped our security. Some things like that. Things that we could do better to make sure this doesn't happen again."

Ortiz called the current state of the facility a “waterpark graveyard” and said they are excited to breathe some life back into the place once they open.
