REDDING, Calif. -

Super Bowl 48 kicks off this Sunday and Northstate businesses are making the necessary preparations.

Bleachers Sports Bar and Grill in Redding is expecting their kitchen to be very busy. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says Super Bowl Sunday is the second highest day for eating right next to Thanksgiving. On average, fans will consume 1,200 calories just in snacks, as well as millions of gallons of beer.

The Redding sports bar will have a full staff on game day since they are expecting to reach a capacity of about 315 people.

“Everyone talks about supporting local businesses so this is the perfect way to do it. It puts money back into the community,” said Bleachers server John Hurlbutt.

However, not everyone will be out watching the game at a bar. Research shows that nine out of ten viewers prefer staying home or going to a friend’s place.

“Because if I have a little too much fun I can just stay in his extra bedroom,” said football fan Pablo Lana of Anderson.

Many people prefer to keep the party at home. In fact, more than 50 million cases of beer are expected to be sold to fans for game day.
