Northstate Marines play Santa, deliver gifts to veterans’ families
They were not dressed the part to play Santa Claus, but the have Marines landed in Shasta County to drop off some holiday joy.
There were no big red suits and beards but members of the United States Marine Corps had on their Dress Blues Tuesday morning.
Several deliveries were made to veterans’ homes throughout Redding. They made the trip with help from the “Toys For Tots” program. Hundreds of items were delivered to local vets and their families in need.
“I've donated toys for tots for the past few years, but I've never actually got to go out and deliver presents,” said Marine Pfc. Bud Johns from Anderson. “It just gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling that I can light up somebody's Christmas.”
Many of the active Marines were natives of Shasta County. The families who received the gifts were selected in-part by the Veterans Affairs office.
It took about four carloads to deliver all the donated gifts.
