REDDING, Calif. -

The knight is rising once again!  But this time it’s not Batman, but Oaky Doaky the Shasta College mascot.

The original Oaky Doaky was destroyed by an oak tree over the winter when a limb fell on it.

Since then, Shasta College students have been hard at work to design and build a replacement to the iconic steel knight.

They are planning on two statues to make up for the one destroyed, and are putting them well out of reach of malicious oak trees this time.

One will be put on the Shasta College sign on the south entrance, and the other on the gymnasium. Both were designed and built by current students.  The statues weigh about 300 lbs. and stand 10 feet tall.

All the welding, fabrication and engineering has been done by students in house.

One knight is all finished and they are working on finishing the second.

The entire project is expected to be completed – with installation and everything – by the end of this semester.
