A crash on Highway 99 near Sherman Street claimed the life of five-year-old Gunner Langenderfer of Gerber when a truck towing a horse trailer could not slow down in time to avoid hitting them.

It has been one week since five-year-old Gunner Langenderfer was killed in a car accident in Los Molinos.

Langenderfer was in the car with his mother, 31-year-old Katie Ramsey, when their car was rear-ended and forced into the path of an ongoing big rig.

As of Wednesday, Ramsey is out of the intensive care unit but is still hospitalized and being treated for multiple fractures.

On Wednesday, Tehama County District Attorney Greg Cohen said he spoke with CHP investigators about whether the crash could be a criminal matter.

No determination has been made by Cohen said he is still waiting on a complete report from the highway patrol.

The lead investigator on the case said that they are looking into the possibility that cell phone use could have been a factor in the case.
