An Olympic silver medalist is visiting Chico Thursday and Friday.
Manteo Mitchell, one of the highest ranked sprinters in the world, rose to international prominence in the London 2012 Olympic Games when he famously broke his fibula 200 meters into his 400-meter leg of the men's relay. He was able to continue and pass the baton, helping the United States win the silver medal.
Mitchell will visit Sports LTD in Chico Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to his appearance at the store at 698 Mangrove Avenue in Chico.
Mitchell signed an endorsement deal with Chico-based Incrediwear in September. Incrediwear is a division of Star Nutrition, and is a diversified health and wellness firm that produces athletic apparel. The company said Mitchell wears its calf sleeve which increases blood flow and reduces leg pain.
Mitchell will be running a clinic and giving a motivational speech for the Chico State University track team on Friday.
"This is going to be a lot of fun," Mitchell says of his upcoming appearances. "It is always great when you get a chance to mentor younger athletes and show them some things that you've learned along the way. I'm very proud to say that I'm an Olympic athlete, and I'm always happy to share my experiences to help other track athletes, whether it's mentally or physically. There is a lot that goes into it and I'm eager to help when I can, so I'm looking forward to my visit."
