A woman allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend in Oroville has died.
The Butte County District Attorney's Office has confirmed that 33-year-old Abby Tucker has died of injuries suffered Monday afternoon.
Her boyfriend, 43-year-old Olabku Jones was in court Wednesday and arraigned on several serious charges and enhancements surrounding the beating of his pregnant girlfriend who remains in critical condition. District Attorney Mike Ramsey says the charges against Jones will be amended Thursday to include a murder charge.
Jones was arrested Monday afternoon after investigators spent the day combing a home on Spencer Avenue in Oroville collecting evidence.
Jones claims his girlfriend slipped and fell in the shower.
In court Wednesday, Deputy District Attorney Robert Thomas III said Jones "pummeled" Tucker and added that she is "likely brain dead."
Today he was arraigned on charges including corporal injury to a spouse with enhancements for causing great bodily injury and leaving her paralyzed.
While the charges were being read Jones shouted out "...just give me the injection!"
Jones did not enter a plea and his bail was set at $1 million. He will be back in court Wednesday.
Jones has previous convictions, including one for robbery in San Joaquin County.
