Lightning struck twice in Palo Cedro. The Holiday Market on Deschutes Road sold their second winning lottery ticket in the past two weeks.
That’s right. Two winning tickets totaling over $110,000 won within two weeks of each other at the same store. Employees are very excited and a little stunned.
“I’ve never seen a winner once, let alone twice in the same store.” said store manager Ryan Lane. “Lightning struck twice, definitely."
Now the store is attracting customers in droves hoping to cash in on the store’s new-found good luck.
“Tons of people have been coming in buying more tickets,” said Lane. “They’re saying they’re going to start playing the lottery even if they never have before.”
The first ticket was won Feb. 4 and the second won yesterday. That’s just 12 days between winning tickets. People were excited before, but now workers are expecting an even bigger push.
“Now there’s a bigger buzz,” said cashier Patience Poston. “Before it was kind of cool, but now I’m like ‘yeah we sold more [winning] tickets.’ And they’re all excited.”
The Holiday Market isn’t the first multiple winner in California Lottery history. A store in Alameda County has sold four winning lottery tickets. But it probably took a little longer than two weeks for those winning tickets to be sold.
And though buying your ticket from the Palo Cedro Holiday Market may not mean winning is a sure thing, it can’t hurt. The odds of winning the Fantasy 5 lottery is 1 in 575,757.
