LOS MOLINOS, Calif. -

A Corning man is recovering after he was hit by a car, and tossed off a bridge in Tehama County.  Rickey French, 52, is in fair condition with at Mercy Medical Center.

The driver, 52-year-old Carolyn Pelham of Los Molinos, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after the CHP said she left the scene of the accident.

The collision happened at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday at Aramayo Way and Vina Road.  The CHP said Pelham ran into the back of a pickup truck on the bridge, ran up on a sidewalk and hit French as he was walking across the bridge.   French was thrown over the bridge railing.

The CHP said French suffered a broken leg, and landed in a river bed 20 feet under the Aramayo Way bridge near Los Molinos.  A medical helicopter landed in a field at the entrance to Mill Creek Park to take French to the hospital.

Officers said Pelham fled the scene in her car, and was apprehended a short time later at a friend's house in the City of  Tehama.
