ANDERSON, Calif. -

A fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision closed northbound Highway 273 in Anderson for two hours Thursday morning.  The road re-opened around 7:30 a.m.

The collision happened at 5:18 a.m. near Highway 273 and Overland Drive.  The victim was been pronounced dead.  The victim's name was not released, but the CHP said he's a white man, approximately 25 years old from Anderson.

Northbound traffic was diverted at Eastside Road in Anderson.

CHP Officer Matt Larsen said Alice Spuhler, 75 of Red Bluff, was driving her husband Ralph to the hospital for a scheduled heart surgery.  Spuhler was unable to avoid the pedestrian who was standing or walking in the right lane of traffic.

After the collision, Spuhler pulled over in her white Town and Country minivan.  Officers said it was dark in the area and Spuhler had little time to avoid hitting the man.

Officer Larsen said Thursday is the couple's 20th anniversary.
